Carbon Upcycling Technologies, a waste and carbon utilization company, is the World Cement Association’s (WCA) newest associate corporate member.
“Carbon Upcycling combines two important routes to lowering emissions: sequestering CO2 in concrete and increasing the availability of low carbon [Supplementary Cementitious Materials], so we are pleased to be welcoming Carbon Upcycling Technologies to WCA’s expanding network, and look forward to helping their business to scale,” said WCA CEO Ian Riley.
Carbon Upcycling can help organizations reduce the carbon intensity of their product while simultaneously sequestering CO2. It has created high-quality SCMs from more than 30 different feedstocks so far, including fly ash, steel slags, glass-based materials, natural pozzolans, magnesium-silicates and clays, resulting in a reduction of up to 20% of the amount of cement used in the production of concrete. Equally importantly, the upcycling process allows usage of low-grade materials and will add to the global supply of SCMs.
